New Wave

1969–1994 · 11 artists in the graph
It starts in 1969 with the Steve Miller Band, the earliest dated credit on the spine, and runs forward to 1977 and Captain Sensible, whose records carry the mark of Porky, the mastering engineer whose cuts would keep surfacing across this scene. From there the baton passes through 1980 — Marc Almond, Midge Ure, and Dave Ball arriving in the same year — with Porky reappearing across Captain Sensible, Dave Ball, and Marc Almond, binding those sessions together at the cutting stage. Around Dave Ball and Marc Almond the connective tissue thickens: producer Mike Thorne and engineer Paul Hardiman both recur across their work, threading the same hands through two careers at once. The years then hand off in sequence — Andy Partridge and Tony Hadley in 1981, Alison Moyet and Culture Club in 1982 — each name a real credit picking up where the last left off. Daryl Hall & John Oates land the line in 1984, before the spine reaches its most recent point in 1994 with Orange Juice, closing a run that traces back, credit by dated credit, to 1969.
